About the Musicians

John Carty, a fiddle and banjo virtuoso born in London, is one of Ireland’s most celebrated traditional musicians. His remarkable talent earned him the prestigious title of TG4 Traditional Musician of the Year in 2003, placing him among the elite in the world of traditional music.

With an extensive recording career and performances worldwide, John has captivated audiences as a solo artist, in duets with notable musicians like Matt Molloy, and as a member of various groups including John Carty’s Festival Band, At the Racket, and Patrick Street. His recent albums, “At Complete Ease” with Michael McGoldrick and “The Wavy Bow Collection” with his son James, showcase his versatility and mastery.

John’s expertise extends beyond performing; he arranged the traditional music for the acclaimed film Brooklyn and appeared in The Banshees of Inisheerin. Additionally, he has been a dedicated tutor at Limerick University’s World Academy of Music & Dance for over 20 years and was honored with the Michael A. Flanagan Award in 2019 for his excellence in banjo playing.

Joining John is Alan G. Murray, a talented guitarist, bouzouki player, and singer based in Boston, Massachusetts. Alan has made a name for himself as an in-demand performer and teacher within the Irish music scene. He tours globally, collaborating with some of the finest traditional musicians today. Alan has shared his knowledge and passion for Irish music at prestigious programs such as the Swannanoa Gathering at Warren Wilson College, Catskills Irish Arts Week, Fairbanks Summer Arts Festival, The O’Flaherty Retreat, and has conducted masterclasses in Irish and Celtic music at the University of Louisiana and Sacred Heart University in Connecticut.
