Embracing the Rhythm of Progress: A 31-Day Practice Challenge

I saw a meme today that read “Is what you’re doing today getting you closer to where you want to be tomorrow?”. It resonated deeply with me, especially as I find myself diving into Day 5 of my 31-day music practice challenge. This journey isn’t just about playing notes or learning tunes; it’s about committing to daily practice to become better musician.

In embarking on this challenge, I’ve realized that the journey towards achieving a long-term goal is not just about the big leaps forward, but rather the small steps we take each day. As I reflect on the above quote, questioning whether my actions today are leading me closer to where I want to be tomorrow, I find a profound resonance with my commitment to this daily practice. And though I can’t tout any great accomplishments yet, I’m building the foundation to make practicing part or my daily routine.

Finding time in my busy day can be a challenge. However, there is value in every practice session, regardless of its duration. Whether it’s a full hour or just fifteen minutes, each moment spent honing my craft contributes to my growth as a musician.

Today’s practice focused on major keys, pentatonic scales and memorizing finger patterns (not to mention intonation). By committing to memorizing fingerboard patterns, I’m laying the groundwork for more easily learning new tunes and eventually exploring the realms of improvisation, musical creation, and making my sound, my own.

As I keep moving forward on this musical journey, I’m reminded that it’s not always about hitting huge milestones, but rather about the steady dedication and consistency we bring to the table. With every note I play and every finger pattern I memorize, I’m getting a little closer to where I want to be as a musician. It’s all about that daily grind, keeping at it with determination, and watching the progress unfold one step at a time.
