Music builds community

traditional irish ceilidhTraditional music is community music and dancing is a huge part of it. Yesterday we played for a community Ceilidh to not only help kick off St. Patrick’s Day and celebrate Irish tradition, but to introduce newcomers to the joys of Ceilidh dancing.

The Garret School of Irish Dance was on hand to walk people through the dances, to showcase some of the school’s dancers, and to introduce newcomers to different types of Irish dances. Young people, old people, experienced dancers and novices all joined in on the fun, It reminded of just how special this music is and how music truly does bring people together.

Here are some highlights from yesterday’s festivities:

  1. Oh Katrina- this is so fantastic! It was extra special to have you playing for this event- just as you did when Alice McNeish and I briefly organized our Ceili dances. I’m glad that you feel the magic and joy through playing that I feel through dancing to Trad.!

What terrific photos and video clips- Will share this with family, friends, and other participants!

Thanks again- it is always nice to see you! Elizabeth
