Dance away the winter blues

Cape Breton music holds a dear place in my heart for many reasons. It was the first genre of fiddle music I learned before I started playing Irish music. And I learned it from a great teacher, Beth Telford, who actually lives in Vermont. She introduced me to many a great fiddle players, composers, dancers and players including the late Jerry Holland, who was not only a great fiddler and composer but also an amazing man. He is one of many I met throughout the years.

The music is rich in tradition. It’s lively, joyful, fun to play and fun to dance to. Luckily there are a great many more talented players and dancers to carry on the tradition. And a few of them are heading from Cape Breton to Vermont to share their music at a Winter Cape Breton Fiddle and Dance Camp in Brookfield Vermont.

Wendy MacIsaac, Andrea Beaton and Beth Telford will be offering fiddle and dance workshops on February 27-March 1, 2015. Here are the details:

The weekend workshop will be held in the historic Pond Village, Brookfield VT, near the floating bridge. Musicians will enjoy 3 days of music, dance, and fun. Sleeping bag accommodations are included, although people are welcome to stay elsewhere if they desire. Check-in and orientation will be at 10:00 am Friday morning. We will conclude at 4:30 pm on Sunday. Bring your own lunch for the first day. Also, in an effort to keep the registration fee low, we’ll work out a potluck dessert and snack system for the weekend. Other than that, meals will be provided. Hope to see a bunch of you there!
