In honor of Mother’s Day

I seriously had the coolest mom. She was obsessed with 280ZX’s, kind of like my obsession with MINI Coopers. Although she was a bit more generous than me when it came to letting people take her car.

She used to let my sister and I drive up and down Revere beach in it with the t-roofs off.  We’d just cruise up and down the beach with our friends blaring Bon Jovi’s Living on A Prayer or Guns and Roses’ Sweet Child of Mine. Yeah, we thought we were the cat’s meow in that machine.

My mom was into music as well. I can’t say she boogied to Guns and Roses but she sure loved Phil Collins and the Moody Blues. She even took me to a Pink Floyd concert once. The audience was more entertaining than the band but that’s another story.

More than music, my mom loved that car. She had a “Z” up until the day she died.

I think my fondest memory of her in that car was when I saw her driving down the street blaring the radio with the t-roofs off and singing at the top of her lungs. She wasn’t singing The Moody Blues, or any Phil Collins song though. She was driving down the road singing Bobby McFarren’s Don’t Worry Be Happy. She loved that song, and who can blame her? It’s a happy song. Not as cool as Living on a Prayer but heck if it made her heart dance…

So in honor of this mother’s day and one of the coolest mother’s I know, I send this out to you, Mom. Happy Mother’s Day!
