Session Obsession

There is no better way to learn Irish music than to constantly listen to as much of it as you possibly can. We are so lucky here in Vermont to have a number of talented local Irish musicians to listen to and play with. What is even more fun is that these same musicians often invite their friends from near and far to come and play for us, share tunes, stories, talent and technique.

This month, accordion player Colm Gannon, will visit the Richmond Free Library for a workshop and acoustic show. He will be joined on stage by a surprise special guest on piano and guitar.

Colm Gannon was born in Boston, MA, where he first learned his music from his father, John Gannon. He has since returned to his father’s birthplace, Droim, in Connemara, Ireland, where he continues to play music in the great Connemara accordion tradition. He recently completed his Masters Degree in Irish Traditional Music Performance at the University of Limerick, and he will be touring in January to promote his second, highly acclaimed solo CD, ‘The Rights of Man‘.

There will also be a number of workshops taking place in Richmond on the morning after the concert, including a Connemara tunes workshop with Colm.
