Drinkwater Irish Sessions: A Cozy Community

If you’re new to Irish sessions—or you’ve been around them for years—you know they have a way of taking on a life of their own. The Drinkwater Session is a perfect example.

This session is a migratory continuation of the old Charlotte Session that got its start back in early 2016. Like a good tune, it’s moved around a bit over the years. For the past few seasons, it’s landed in a barn on Drinkwater Road in Hinesburg, which has become a pretty special and cozy spot to gather and play.

The session happens about every two weeks, year-round, most often on Saturday afternoons (and occasionally Sundays). There’s no pressure and no expectations—just a steady rhythm of tunes, conversation, and community.

All levels are welcome. Seasoned players, folks still getting their bearings, instruments of all kinds, and even people who just want to listen and enjoy Irish music. Sessions work best when they’re open, and this one truly is.

The tunes and sets are always changing. Nothing is fixed or rehearsed. Play whatever comes up in the moment, follow where the music wants to go, and see what sticks. Some days it’s familiar ground, other days you leave with a handful of new tunes rattling around in your head.

If you’re interested in joining in or just want more info, email Kevin Burget at kburget@gmail.com to get on the mailing list. New faces are always welcome.
