This Sunday, March 5th join Irish musicians from around the country, in participating in the Sanctuary Sessions, traditional music for civil rights.
Whether you live in Vermont, Massachusetts, New York or Oregon, you too can make a difference.
This is a massive session taking place around the country, and in Ireland, to help raise money for the ACLU (American Civil Liberties Union), an organization that strives to protect the civil rights of all people.
All musicians, singers, dancers and listeners are welcome to join Sanctuary Sessions in Vermont (and sessions all over). You’re also encouraged to make a voluntary contribution to the ACLU. The session will be held at:
La Puerta Negra
March 5, 2017
44 Main Street
Montpelier, VT
4:00pm-6:00pm
A note for musicians: If you are able, please bring something to sit on while you play.
A note to listeners: Please feel free to use your smartphones, or any recording device, to video the event and post to Facebook.
Why Sanctuary Sessions?
Given that the Irish themselves found sanctuary in America in times of oppression, starvation and unimaginable poverty, musicians in the Boston Irish community felt it important to add their voices (and music) to those concerned about the trend in the country toward exclusion and prejudice. They then reached out to the broader community of Irish musicians in a nationwide effort to support the civil rights of all people. And thus Sanctuary Sessions was born.
In addition to the Montpelier event, there will be Sanctuary Sessions held in:
- Arlington, VA
- Asheville, NC
- Baltimore, MD
- Boston, MA
- Chicago, IL
- Cincinnati, OH
- Dublin, Ireland
- Los Angeles, CA
- Martha’s Vineyard, MA
- Milwaukee, WI
- New York
- Philadelphia, PA
- Portland, ME
- Portland, OR
- San Francisco, CA
- South Bend, IN
- St. Louis, MO
Find a Sanctuary Session near you. Come out and listen, play, sing, dance and contribute to a better world. If you can’t make it but would still like to contribute, you can make a donation.
See you on Sunday!
