Love is in the air. This coming weekend a good friend of mine is marrying the love of his life and he requested I play a specific tune during the ceremony. So I’ve spent the last couple of days learning said tune (I know, nothing like waiting until the last minute).
It’s a special tune. Both because it was written by a mutual friend of ours and former fiddle teacher, Sarah Blair. And also because it’s called The Hope Jig, which is a nice name for a tune that’s going to be played at a wedding (and a killer tune I might add).
While I was busy learning it, I was reminded at how much music influences us. This is a tune this couple will remember for the rest of their lives because it was played for them on their special day. This is a tune they’ll hear again and say “that’s our song.” This is a tune that will forever remind me that there is always hope and there is always love.
I’m honored to be taking part in the ceremony this weekend and playing such a special piece of music. I’m honored because it’s music that brought my friend and I together and it’s music that will carry him and his wife-to-be forward.
Cheers to the happy couple. Congrats in advance Harold and Jamie. May your lives be filled with happiness, music and love!
Hi Katrina,
What a sweet, touching story. I’d love to hear you play “The Hope Jig” sometime- maybe with Sarah if you’re both at the Session!
Thanks,
Elizabeth Hunt Schwartz
Thanks Elizabeth! I’ll play it the next time I’m at the session. I won’t be there this Saturday as it is Harold’s wedding. 🙂
